Mr. Lucas is Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and a distinguished historian and specialist in the history of 18th century France, principally the French Revolution. Mr. Lucas studied at Lincoln College, Oxford, and went on to teach at Sheffield University and Manchester University before returning to his alma mater as fellow and tutor in Modern History at Balliol College. From 1990 to 1994 he was Professor of History and Dean of the Division of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. He became Master of Balliol College in 1994 and has been Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University since 1997.
