Susie Bannon

Program Associate

Susannah “Susie” Bannon is a program associate in the Office of the President, where she works on the Imagining Freedom Initiative.

Before joining Mellon, Susie was the assistant director of the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison, where she supervised daily operations and led various areas of programming, working closely with incarcerated students and organizing convenings on the state and national levels. Prior to working at the Alliance, Dr. Bannon was an award-winning lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University. As a formerly incarcerated advocate and organizer, Susie has helped build and lead abolitionist organizations including the Reentry Advocacy Project, the Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network, Mourning Our Losses, and the Prison Education Partnership of San Antonio.

She holds a BA from the University of Houston-Downtown, an MA from Texas State University, and a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
